Outdoor Activities For Warmer Weather

After what feels like the longest winter in history… spring has finally arrived!
I don’t know about you but I am MUCH more willing to get outside with the kids when we don’t have to bundle up in 10 layers.

When we talk about enjoying the outdoors, the list of benefits is long, but includes:

Burns Energy
Improves Mood
Kickstarts Circadian Rhythm
Limits Screen Time
and many, many, more…

I don’t know about you but sometimes I struggle to come up with outdoor activities for the kids. So I have compiled a list of different ideas to try, including suggestions sent in by you!

  1. Bikes & Scooters. Get out for a bike or scooter ride. Invest in a bike seat that allows you to get out and burn some energy before your child is able to ride a bike on their own - I had one that mounted behind my seat and my daughter used to LOVE lifting my shirt up and putting it around her head as we rode around!

  2. Bubbles. Need I say more?! Bubbles are life for kids. I wish parenting came with an automatic investment in bubble stocks! *bonus tip: does your child spill the bubbles trying to get them out? Buy the bubble wands that come with a long tube, zip tie the tube to the railing on your deck and refill as needed!

  3. Chalk. There are so many different things that you can do with chalk from drawing pictures to tracing your kiddos as they lie on the ground in different positions. Want to add another level? Draw a race track for their bikes or toy cars!

  4. Scavenger Hunts. This may be my sons favourite activity, and minimal prep/cleanup from me! You can find numerous different lists for age appropriate scavenger hunts online, but if you don’t have time to prep just look around at the environment you’re in and come up with a variety of items. I typically ask the kids to find “y” shaped sticks, pinecones, flat rocks, a red leaf, a ladybug, etc.

  5. Explore. Go for walks and explore! Find puddles to splash in, find grass to lay on, find clouds to stare at… Follow your child’s lead and let them take you on an adventure through their wonderful imagination!

Is there another outdoor activity that your little(s) love? Leave them in the comments below!
